About Our Family

Canine Works is owned and operated by Mary, Michael and Zack Turgeon. Mary has been in the dog care industry since 1984 and while she learned a great deal and saw many of the good aspects, she also saw there was a lot of room for improvement in the standards for boarding facilities. Cement runs, pack let-outs, unclean facilities, unsupervised nights, and hidden add-on fees for basic care that should be provided.

In 2002, Canine Works was born. From the start it was a true family affair –  Mary’s Dad helped out with the dogs and running the first pet taxi service. We ran strong for 19 years, even managing to survive through the pandemic economy. In 2021 Mary started a long but winning battle with cancer. After closing our doors to focus on our family we officially re-opened in 2025.

Mary credits her parents, Ed and Colleen, for instilling in her the values of honesty, integrity, and spirituality.

“They showed me by example. That’s how they lived their lives, and that’s how I try to live mine.”
